1. Appraisals by Claire Boyles

To any country dweller or especially farmers, this book may hit deeply.  This story tells a tale of a third-generation farmer experiencing modern day struggles.  The recession has hit, the financial struggle has come, so her husband signs up to work for an oil company.  This creates division between her daughter and her husband, and meanwhile trying to handle family matters, third party problems roll in.  This story is one of a farmer holding strong through her everyday life struggles that are far too realistic of events to only exist in fictional stories.

2. You'll Be Sorry by Lisa Gardner

A lovely couple wind up getting married in a very short period.  From doing this myself, I can say that to anyone else who has gotten married quickly, this story is very realistic in the phase after the honeymoon is over and you realize how little you know your spouse.  This story plays on that time period of a quick marriage with an additional challenge that hits this couple.  A dark murderous past comes back to haunt and further challenges the mystery they realize lies within their spouse, creating a sense of distrust between the two and a search for answers to what's been laid at their doorstep.

3. The Plant Lady by Minyoung Kang

This book is one of those stories that can have a touch of slapstick to it.  A story that takes place in South Korea with a young woman who turns out she's a bit sexist and psychopathic.  She runs a plant shop where she makes her main living, but it's not enough.  She finds herself becoming almost like a vigilante in her own way, maybe even just in her own mind.  She commits to her plants and fellow plant ladies by day, and to her favors for her friendly plant lover customers by night.
